Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson disclosed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals ran across the track right in his path

The alarming incident occurred on the third lap when marshals were seen on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to replace his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson radioed to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two individuals dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a miscommunication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be authorized to just run across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is thoroughly reviewing the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was notified that fragments were located on the track at the apex of that corner" commented the regulatory authority

"On lap three, marshals were alerted and made ready to enter the track and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy personnel were canceled and a caution signal was shown in that zone"

"We are still investigating what happened following that moment"
